THE CHALLENGES OF WOMEN IN MILITARY POLICE FUNCTIONS: CONSIDERATIONS ON THE ADVANCES OF WOMEN'S PERFORMANCE IN THE PMPR CORPORATION

The present article is a bibliographical and documentary review on the advancements in the participation of women in the field of police work, which has prompted numerous analyses and studies regarding the integration of women into environments traditionally recognized as male-dominated, with the aim of understanding the new forms of organization within these spaces. In Brazil, the second state to open the doors of a police career to women was the Military Police of the State of Paraná, in the 1970s. The entry of women into the military police forces occurred through the intersection of institutional and social factors. The objective of this review is to outline the challenges and advancements of women’s participation up until their entry into the police force. For the development of the study, a bibliographical and documentary survey was conducted. A total of 254 articles were found, of which 27 were selected for analysis as they specifically addressed the role of women in the military police profession, including their challenges and advancements. Historical and conceptual aspects, as well as the characterization of women’s participation in the military police profession, were identified.
