Abstract

Learning is developed by a series of factors that collaborate for cognitive development and the methodology used in the classroom is one of the main procedures to guarantee the acquisition of the objectives set. These, in turn, are formalized according to the needs of the class. Thus, if we have a problem related to reading and interpretation as a limiting factor for learning, it is essential that the moments of studies are taught in order to remedy such cognitive deficiencies of individuals. This article aims to analyze innovative methodological strategies, particularly those that contribute to the development of the individual's interpretive capacity and highlights the use of journalistic texts as a methodological source for mathematics classes, so that it becomes more dynamic and connected to the reality of the students. For that, we present examples of texts extracted from newspapers of regional and national circulation, to demonstrate an alternative of thematic approach of mathematical contents that can base the studies of the student inserted in Basic Education. Finally, we found that the use of newspapers as a methodological source is an important starting point to form beings with critical resourcefulness, being direct members of the societies in which they live and capable of overcoming the challenges proposed by it.
