Abstract

In this article, we use the chess game to answer the following question: how can this ancient instrument support the learning of the Mathematics discipline of high school students? For a better understanding of Mathematics Teaching and the use of educational games, we initially carried out a documental research analyzing the proposals contained in the National Curriculum Parameters (PCN's) and, in a second moment, a bibliographical research, based on theoretical ones such as Kishimoto and Piaget. Our goal is to discuss the relationship between Chess and Mathematics, as well as the similarities that we can observe between mathematicians and chess players. Therefore, we present application examples to demonstrate an alternative approach to some mathematical content that can use chess as an important tool. Finally, we conclude that Chess is an excellent option as a resource in learning, especially in learning Mathematics.
