Abstract

Composite resin is a material that has a great acceptance, becoming widely used in restorative dentistry. In addition to these restorative materials with favorable results and in order to make the dental treatment more acceptable to children, dye particles were added, obtaining the colored compomers. The present study aims to evaluate the action of acidic beverages for children's consumption on the surface of colored compomers. 60 discs of the Twinky Star compomers, in blue and pink colors and 30 discs of the Twinky Star Flow compomers with the dimensions of 10mm x 2mm, were produced. The samples were submitted to cycles of immersion in Coca-Cola beverages, Kapo grape juice and distilled water, simulating daily meals for 5 days. After each cycle, the samples were immersed in distilled water and stored in an oven. At the end of the cycles, microhardness and surface roughness tests were performed. The non-parametric Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis U tests, followed by Bonferroni post hoc tests, were used to test median differences. The results showed that exposure to Coca-Cola increased the surface roughness of the compomers compared to Kapo grape juice. However, the group exposed to Kapo grape juice showed a lower roughness than the control group, suggesting that factors other than pH may influence the roughness of the compomers.
