With the purpose of studying the impact of socioeconomic changes brought about by the creation and expansion of the Federal Institutes of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education, this article aims to establish an analysis of the changes that the presence of federal technical schools has caused in the municipalities of the state São Paulo in terms of expanding the population's per capita income levels. The methodology adopted in the research was quantitative and empirical, based on the performance of a difference test of means, a hypothesis test and a regression analysis that allows the quantification and inference of the variables used and the subsequent analysis of the related data. The results observed relate to the finding that the presence of Federal Institutes is not directly associated with changes in the population's per capita income levels. The results concerning the variable of formal income control are significant and provide evidence that its presence in some municipalities in the state of São Paulo is correlated with changes in the average formal income levels of the local population.
