CHECK-IN – CHECK-OUT DYNAMICS AS WARM-UP STRATEGIES IN REMOTE CLASSES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

This study reports the experience of using check-in and check-out dynamics as strategies to increase participation and improve the psychological well-being of Pharmacy undergraduates, from the “Supervised Internship discipline at Unified Health System”, at a public university in the State of Rio de Janeiro, at remote teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The dynamics were operationalized through forms available in the virtual learning environment. Seven classes participated in the dynamics between the years 2020 and 2021, totaling 32 students, 78.1% female. Of the 330 responses, 51.8% referred to check-in. As for the content, a predominance of “positive” perceptions was identified, followed by “negative” and “mixed” perceptions, both for check-in (39.2%; 36.8%; 24%) and check-out (42.1 %; 32.7%; 25.2%). We observed changes in sensations and emotions reported throughout the activities, an aspect evidenced in changes in the keywords present in each category of perception. In our experience, the use of check-in and check-out helped students to share their anxieties, doubts and to feel welcomed and cared for. The dynamics provided feedback, support for the most vulnerable students and contributed to improvements in the teaching methodology of the subject.

Deison Alencar Lucietto, Fluminense Federal University

He holds a degree in Dentistry (UFSM, 2002), a Masters in Public Health (FIOCRUZ, 2005), a PhD in Public Health (FIOCRUZ, 2012) and a postdoctoral degree in Preventive and Social Dentistry (UFRGS, 2018). He works as an adjunct professor at the Institute of Collective Health and at the Professional Master's in Health Education: interdisciplinary training for the SUS, at the Fluminense Federal University, Niterói campus. He coordinates the extension project "Think, Imagine, Inventa! Co-creation and sharing of sustainable knowledge and technologies in health promotion" and the "Fluminense Research Group on the Health of Vulnerable Populations (GFP-SPVUL)".

Gabriela Bittencourt Gonzalez Mosegui, Fluminense Federal University

He holds a degree in Pharmacy (UFF, 1994), a master's degree in Public Health (IMS/UERJ, 1997), a PhD in Public Health (IMS/UERJ, 2002) and a postdoctoral degree at the University of La Rioja (2019). She was a visiting researcher at the University of Sheffiled for a brief period. She is a researcher at the Group of Studies and Research in Health and Society (GEPSS), professor of the Professional Master's Degree in Management and Administration of Pharmaceutical Services (PPG-GAFAR/UFF) and collaborator with the Laboratory of Statistics and Mathematics Applied to Health (LEMAS/UERJ). ). She works as a professor at the Institute of Collective Health, at the Fluminense Federal University, Niterói campus.
