period of post-pregnancy life is known as the puerperiumAbstract
The initial period of post-pregnancy life is known as the puerperium; it is the phase in which the woman experiences physical and emotional changes resulting from the pregnancy periodo. The objective of this research was to describe the role of physical therapy in postpartum treatment, aiming to promote, through its interventions during this phase, a better adaptation of the woman to her new body reality. To this end, a systematic review was conducted in the PubMed, BVS Regional Port, Capes and Google Academic databases on the subject, between the years 2011 and 2021. As a result of the problem, the role of the physical therapist was highlighted, with the use of non-pharmacological techniques that ensure comfort and improvement of the postpartum physical condition. It is concluded that physiotherapy in this phase is of great importance, because it helps quickly and effectively in the return to prepregnancy conditions, having as a priority the performance, clarification and guidance of pregnant and postpartum women in order to minimize the undesirable effects of physiological changes.
