INFLUENCE OF EXCESS WEIGHT ON THE PHYSIOPATHOLOGY OF POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a very common metabolic endocrine disorder in women in the phase between menarche and menopause. Some elements, such as the genetic, environmental and socioeconomic factor, are related to the development of this disorder,as well as the presence of clinical-pathological conditions, such as obesity,it is very common to increase the symptoms of PCOS in the presence of excessive consumption of simple carbohydrates, saturated fats and trans. In view of the above, the present research aimed to verify the association between overweight and progression of polycystic ovary syndrome. The work is a narrative review of the literature, based on scientific articles from the bibliographic databases PubMed and SciELO,articles dated between 2016 and 2021 are used as a priority.Weight excess leads to hyperandrogenism, promoting increased production and biological action of androgens in the body, mainly testosterone. This state reflects irregular menstruation, infertility and the presence of cysts in the ovaries. Thus, it can be concluded that the excess weight is directly related to the installation and/or exacerbation of PCOS and that the dietotherapeutic and style control essential to treat this condition.
