THE PERFORMANCE OF THE MILITARY POLICE OF PARANÁ, IN THE SPECIAL ACTIVITY GROUP TO COMBAT ORGANIZED CRIME - GAECO
Abstract
State Public Ministries act, among other functions, as external control bodies for police activity. In this context, GAECO, the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime, appears, a body established by the State Public Prosecutor's Office, to combat criminal organizations, as well as control police activities, which in complex cases, due to their characteristics and functional peculiarities, require special action seeking to clarify the facts, hold those involved accountable, and preserve corporations and society. GAECO can be formed through the integration of the bodies that make up Public Security, listed in Article 144 of the Federal Constitution, which act jointly with the Public Ministry, carrying out their activities in accordance with their attribution. In the State of Paraná, GAECO is formed through the integration of the Military Police, Civil Police, and Public Ministry. In this way, we seek to act in the complete cycle of criminal prosecution, that is, the institutions act within their responsibilities, from the news of the criminal fact, in the criminal investigation until its denunciation. But for this to work effectively, it is necessary to point out the responsibilities of each body, within the Group, to avoid illegalities, especially procedural ones. This work will expose the effective role of the Military Police of Paraná, in the process of action within GAECO-PR, demonstrating the importance of this integration in combating complex crimes, in the external control of police activity, and the results achieved in the year 2023.
