EATING BEHAVIOR AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GUT AND THE BRAIN

Abstract

The relationship between food and mental health has gained prominence in scientific research, especially with regard to the interconnection between the intestine and the brain. The intestinal microbiota, made up of trillions of microorganisms, interacts in a complex way with the central nervous system (CNS) through neural, hormonal and immunological pathways. Based on a clinical nutrition guide, it is clear that dietary intervention can optimize the function of the microbiota-gut-brain axis, promoting both digestive and mental health. Analyzing the interactions between diet, microbiota and mental health can contribute to the development of innovative approaches to treating neuropsychiatric conditions. The objective of this monograph is to investigate the relationship between behavioral nutrition and the gut-brain axis, focusing on the interactions between the intestinal microbiota and mental health, through a review of the literature, aiming to identify evidence that supports the hypothesis that a healthy diet healthy can promote a healthy microbiome, contributing to the prevention and management of neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety. It is concluded that the study of eating behavior and its relationship with the gut-brain axis reveals a complex interconnection between the intestinal microbiota, the central nervous system and mental well-being.
