VISUAL THERAPY AND NEURODEVELOPMENT IN ASD: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW OF OPTOMETRIC INTERVENTIONS
Abstract
The relationship between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and visual development involves significant challenges in visual coordination and sensory integration, impacting children's academic and social performance. This study reviewed the literature on optometric interventions, such as the use of prisms and vision therapy, highlighting their effectiveness in improving visual and motor functions, as well as promoting behavioral modulation. Key strategies for personalizing therapies were analyzed, revealing that an integrated approach by optometrists, educators, and therapists is essential for improving the quality of life of these children. The review highlighted the positive impact of vision therapies on the neurodevelopment of children with ASD, emphasizing the potential of these interventions to optimize academic and social performance.
