THE ROLE OF TACTICAL MOTORCYCLE PATROL UNITS IN REINFORCING COMMON PATROLING UNITS: AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON RESPONSE TIME DURING CRITICAL PERIODS AT THE HEADQUARTERS OF 11th MILITARY POLICE BATTALION
Abstract
The objective of this article is to analyze the efficiency of the tactical motorcycle patrol modality (ROCAM) in providing immediate reinforcement to the Radio Patrol Auto (RPA) units during periods of greater operational pressure. To this end, simulated displacements were carried out in a controlled environment in the municipality of Campo Mourão-PR, headquarters of the 11th Military Police Battalion, comparing the response time of both modalities at two critical times (12h00min and 18h00min). The displacements started from four different points in the urban area, using as the police vehicle for ROCAM the BMW F850GS motorcycle (standard used by the Corporation) and, for RPA, the Renault Duster Iconic 1.3T patrol vehicle. The results indicate that the presence of ROCAM enables a significant reduction in travel time, especially in situations where the number of available patrol vehicles is reduced or traffic is more congested. Furthermore, the study confirms that the primary activity of ROCAM, within the Military Police Battalions and specifically in the 11th BPM, is to provide rapid and strategic support to radio patrol units.
