AESTHETIC RECONTOURING: PERSPECTIVES AND PRACTICES IN CONTEMPORARY DENTISTRY

Aesthetic recontouring using composite resins represents a direct restorative technique that does not require tooth preparation and relies solely on the application of an adhesive system. This approach is recommended in cases without severe dental discoloration and when positional correction does not require preparation or reduction. It stands out as an appropriate alternative for repositioning teeth within the dental arch, closing diastemas, and treating conoid teeth. Objective: To conduct a literature review on current techniques and indications for aesthetic dental recontouring. Methods: This study consists of an integrative review and a translational study. The PICO method was applied to outline the topic and formulate the research question. Results and Discussion: A total of 59 publications were identified through database searches—3 in the VHL, 50 in PubMed, and 6 in SciELO—of which 33 were selected for full-text reading. From these, 20 publications were included in the final analysis and synthesis. Conclusion: The findings indicate that technological advancements, combined with conservative adhesive approaches and meticulous aesthetic planning, position aesthetic recontouring as an effective technique in clinical dentistry, enabling predictable and personalized treatments that satisfactorily meet both biological requirements and patients’ aesthetic expectations.
