FINANCIAL HEALTH DIAGNOSIS IN CABINDA PROVINCE: A BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS UNDER THE DSOP METHODOLOGY

Abstract

This study presents a diagnosis of the financial health of workers and entrepreneurs in the Province of Cabinda, Angola, using Financial Therapy and the DSOP Methodology (Diagnose, Dream, Budget, and Save) as its theoretical and methodological framework. The general objective was to analyze the financial literacy profile and financial behavior of the sample. A quantitative and descriptive research approach was adopted, with data collected through a structured questionnaire administered to 341 participants. The results reveal a critical scenario: although the majority of participants report medium to high income levels, 56.9% demonstrate zero financial resilience, being unable to sustain themselves for even a few months without income. Moreover, 69.2% exhibit a reactive rather than proactive attitude toward unexpected financial events, with 57.2% indicating they would only cut expenses after such events occur. This finding confirms that financial planning is largely disregarded, driven by intuitive and emotionally driven consumer behavior. Additionally, only 41.6% of respondents reported engaging in periodic budgeting, confirming the neglect of the “Diagnose” pillar. The study concludes that financial vulnerability in the region stems from the absence of planning habits and recommends the implementation of behavioral financial education programs to promote the economic sustainability of families in Cabinda.
