ASSOCIATION BETWEEN FUNCTIONAL INSTABILITY OF THE TURNOZEL, TRAIN CARRY AND HEALTH IN RULES: IMPLICATIONS FOR PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC PRACTICE
Abstract
Considering the expressive growth of street running and the high occurrence of musculoskeletal health problems associated with practice, it is important to understand clinical and training factors related to this scenario. In this context, the possible influence of ankle functional instability and training load on the functional impact reported by runners is highlighted. The objective is to evaluate the association between ankle functional instability, training load and health problems related to sports practice in street runners. Therefore, an observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted with 45 runners participating in a sports event in the city of Cametá, Pará. Functional instability of the ankle was assessed by Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT-BR), while health problems related to sports practice were monitored by the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center Questionnaire (OSTRC-BR). It was observed that 42.2% of the participants presented functional ankle instability and 68.9% reported running-related health problems. Corridors with functional instability presented greater severity of health problems (p = 0.047), and a negative correlation was identified between the CAIT and OSTRC scores (ρ = −0.33; p < 0.05). The training load variables, including weekly mileage and training frequency, were not significantly associated with the severity of health problems (p > 0.05). It is concluded that the functional instability of the ankle is associated with greater functional impact on the practice of running, highlighting the importance of evaluating joint stability in the physiotherapeutic monitoring of runners.
