IMPACT OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY STRATEGIES ON THE MANAGEMENT OF OROFACIAL PAIN: A PUBLIC HEALTH STUDY
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the impact of multidisciplinary strategies on the management of orofacial pain (OFP) in public health settings, aiming to support practices that prioritize comprehensiveness and resolutivity of care. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review conducted in the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and BVS databases. The search encompassed publications available until March 2026, utilizing the PICO strategy to select primary studies on multidisciplinary interventions in public health services. Results: The final sample of nine articles suggests that the transition from a biomedical model to a biopsicossocial matrix may favor the control of chronicity. Evidence indicates that the integration of nursing in screening and the support of physiotherapy in functional recovery are potentially capable of increasing resolutivity in Primary Care. Furthermore, shared management with psychology appears to be a determining factor in addressing psychosocial comorbidities, such as anxiety and catastrophizing, which frequently exacerbate the pain condition. Final considerations: The data suggest that resolutivity in OFP management in the public sector is presumably proportional to the capacity for interconnection between different cores of knowledge. It is concluded that multidisciplinary strategies have the potential to reduce unnecessary referrals and promote comprehensive assistance, although the effective implementation of these protocols still faces structural challenges within the care network.
