PRE-PROSTHETIC SURGERIES AS SUPPORT FOR ORAL REHABILITATION: CLINICAL CASE REPORT
Abstract
Tooth loss, whether total or partial, can cause functional and aesthetic changes that compromise the balance of the stomatognathic system. Among the complications arising from edentulism, Combination Syndrome stands out, hindering the retention and stability of prostheses. In these cases, pre-prosthetic surgeries, such as frenectomy and alveolar ridge regularization, are fundamental to improving the adaptation and comfort of prosthetic rehabilitations, which favors more satisfactory functional and aesthetic results. This is a clinical case report of oral rehabilitation with prostheses, emphasizing the importance of pre-prosthetic surgeries for the success of the treatment. This is a descriptive case report study in which a patient with total upper and partial lower edentulism (Combination Syndrome) underwent clinical evaluation and surgical and prosthetic planning. Initially, labial frenectomy and upper alveolar ridge regularization were performed, with adequate healing. Next, rehabilitation began with impressions, prosthesis fabrication, and clinical adjustments, until the installation of the upper complete denture and lower partial denture, restoring function, aesthetics, and comfort. The results obtained demonstrated improved masticatory function, greater stability and adaptation of the prostheses, in addition to restoring the aesthetics, phonetics, and quality of life of the patient.

Dental student in the tenth semester at Faculdade Independente do Nordeste, with a trajectory focused on clinical and scientific development. Since the eighth semester, she has been a member of the Academic League of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics (LADEP), participating in initiatives that contribute to the improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in these areas.

Since the fourth semester of the undergraduate program, she has participated in the Academic Center of Dentistry (CAMF), contributing to academic and representative activities. She was also a member of the Academic League of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics (LADEP) for two semesters, participating in initiatives focused on theoretical and practical improvement in these areas.
Undergraduate Dental student, currently in the tenth semester. She served as Scientific Director of the Academic League of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics (LADEP) for two semesters, participating in initiatives aimed at strengthening theoretical knowledge and improving clinical skills in these areas.
Undergraduate Dental student at Faculdade Independente do Nordeste (FAINOR), currently attending the tenth semester. Since the fourth semester, she has participated in the Marcílio Ferraz Academic Center (CAMF), contributing to academic and representative activities. Since the eighth semester, she has been a member of the Academic League of Orthodontics (LAORTO), participating in activities focused on theoretical and practical improvement in the field. She also works as a teaching assistant in the subjects Surgical Propedeutics II and Integrated Pediatric Clinic II, participating in teaching support activities.
She holds a degree in Dentistry from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1996). She currently works as a dentist for the Municipal Government of Jequié-BA and in private practice in Vitória da Conquista-BA. She is a specialist in Prosthodontics from ABCD/BA (2011) and completed a specialization in Implant Dentistry at ABEPO, Vitória da Conquista-BA, with a pending monograph (2022). She works in the areas of General Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Implant Dentistry, Minor Oral Surgery, and Esthetics. She has experience as a clinical preceptor for Dentistry students from the fifth to the tenth semester (June to December 2021 and January to December 2022). She is currently a faculty member at Faculdade Independente do Nordeste (FAINOR-BA), teaching the courses Rehabilitative Foundations IV (seventh semester) and Dental Clinic III (eighth semester), focusing on Removable Partial Dentures and Complete Dentures since February 2023, in addition to supervising internships for ninth- and tenth-semester students.
She holds a degree in Dentistry from the University of Alfenas (MG). She earned a PhD in Health Sciences from the State University of Montes Claros (Unimontes/MG) and a Master’s degree in Periodontics from São Leopoldo Mandic, Campinas-SP. She is a specialist in Implant Dentistry from ABO Regional of Vitória da Conquista-BA and in Public Health from Facinter/PR. She has professional training in Implant Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Esthetic Periodontics, and Endodontics. She has experience in Dentistry, with emphasis on Periodontics, Implant Dentistry, and Health Sciences, working mainly on prevention and treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases, as well as the interrelationship between systemic comorbidities and periodontal diseases. She is currently a faculty member at Faculdade Independente do Nordeste (FAINOR) and a dentist at CMO (Medical and Dental Clinic) in Vitória da Conquista-BA.
