DENTAL TRAUMA IN CHILDHOOD AND THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING THE ORAL HEALTH TEAM IN THE FAMILY HEALTH STRATEGY IN PARÁ STATE: AN EXPERIENCE REPORT
Abstract
Dental trauma is a highly prevalent dental emergency affecting both soft and hard tissues, with children being more susceptible due to their lower perception of risk. This study is a descriptive experience report that aims to describe the clinical management of a case of root fracture in a deciduous tooth treated by the oral health team of a Brazil’s Family Health Strategy unit within Primary Health Care in the city of Belém, Pará. The treatment was based on current protocols for trauma in deciduous teeth, with clinical and radiological follow-up and favorable resolution of the condition, maintaining function and avoiding post-treatment complications. It is concluded that professional training in Primary Health Care is indispensable, as it is the main point of entry for users into the Brazil’s Public Health System, with the dentist playing a key role as a health promoter in emergency situations within primary care.
