PROTOCOLS FOR SCREENING, NEONATAL BIOMARKERS AND CLINICAL MANAGEMENT OF ANKYLOGLOSSIA IN PRIMARY CARE: IMPACTS ON THE CONTINUITY OF BREASTFEEDING
Abstract
This article aimed to analyze scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of interdisciplinary protocols associated with the use of neonatal biomarkers in the management of ankyloglossia and its influence on the maintenance of exclusive breastfeeding in Primary Health Care. This is an integrative literature review conducted through searches in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and BVS/LILACS databases, including studies published up to April 2026. Previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, with a multi-stage screening process, resulting in the final inclusion of 14 studies. The findings indicate that integrated action among Dentistry, Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Pharmacy/Biomedical Sciences, combined with the use of biomarkers such as salivary cortisol and inflammatory cytokines, contributes to more accurate diagnosis, early intervention, and improved functional outcomes. Additionally, a positive impact on the continuity of breastfeeding and reduction of neonatal physiological stress was observed. It is concluded that interdisciplinary approaches enhance care effectiveness, highlighting the need for structured protocols in Primary Health Care.
