THE IMPORTANCE OF PRE-PROSTHETIC SURGERY IN ORAL REHABILITATION WITH IMMEDIATE REMOVABLE COMPLETE DENTURES: A CLINICAL CASE REPORT
Abstract
Edentulism compromises oral function and quality of life, making rehabilitation with removable dentures indispensable. In these scenarios, pre-prosthetic surgeries are relevant to improve the adaptation, retention, and stability of dentures in some cases. This paper aims to report a clinical case of oral rehabilitation through an immediate complete removable denture in association with pre-prosthetic surgeries (upper labial frenectomy, alveoloplasty, extractions) in a 56-year-old female patient. A satisfactory scar evolution was observed, without complications, with proper adaptation of the prosthesis after adjustments and relining, as well as a significant improvement in masticatory function, phonetics, and aesthetics, in addition to providing greater comfort. It is concluded that the combination of immediate removable complete dentures and pre-prosthetic surgeries shows considerable effectiveness in planning for completely edentulous patients, as it establishes proper biomechanics, which helps to restore function and aesthetics to the patient.

Currently works as a Dentist for the Municipal Government of Jequié-BA and in private practice in Vitória da Conquista-BA, Brazil. Specialist in Prosthodontics from ABCD/BA (2011) and completed a specialization in Implant Dentistry at ABEPO/Vitória da Conquista-BA (with pending monograph) (02/2022). Works in General Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Implant Dentistry, Minor Oral Surgery, and Aesthetic Dentistry. Has experience as an internship preceptor for Dentistry students from the fifth to the tenth semester (June to December/2021 and January to December/2022).
