IMPACTS OF NURSING PRACTICE IN HOME VISITS ON THERAPEUTIC ADHERENCE OF HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS: INTEGRAL REVIEW
Abstract
Introduction: Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is a chronic condition characterized by elevated blood pressure levels in the arteries. Effective hypertension control requires a comprehensive approach that considers multiple factors, including pharmacological interventions and lifestyle modifications, such as healthy eating habits, regular physical activity, and smoking cessation. Objective: To analyze the impacts of nursing practice in home visits on therapeutic adherence among hypertensive patients. Materials and Methods: This is a qualitative, descriptive study developed through a literature review. The selected descriptors were: nursing, home visit, and hypertension. The database search initially resulted in 45 publications. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, the final sample consisted of 6 scientific articles. Results: The included studies were published between 2001 and 2023, covering different geographical contexts. Regarding methodological design, a diversity of study types was observed, including randomized clinical trials, longitudinal studies, comparative studies, integrative reviews, systematic reviews with meta-analysis, and experience reports. Conclusion: It is concluded that home visits are an effective strategy in the management of arterial hypertension, with the nurse’s role being fundamental in this process not only as a care provider but also as an educator and facilitator of therapeutic adherence. A patient-centered approach, considering the individual’s life context, proved essential for the effectiveness of interventions.
