THE ROLE OF THE PHARMACIST IN DISTRIBUTION LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY MANAGEMENT IN HEALTH PRODUCTS
Abstract
Pharmaceutical logistics and supply management play an essential role in the operation of health product distributors, ensuring the quality, safety, and availability of medicines and hospital supplies. This study aimed to analyze the importance of the pharmacist’s role in distributors and healthcare services, highlighting their responsibilities in logistics processes and inventory management. This is a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study developed through a bibliographic review based on scientific articles related to pharmaceutical logistics, drug distribution, and supply management. The results showed that pharmacists play a strategic role in implementing good storage practices, quality control, temperature monitoring, and product traceability. It was also observed that tools such as ABC and XYZ curves contribute to inventory control and waste reduction. However, challenges related to logistics infrastructure, inadequate transportation, and the need for professional training still impact the sector. It is concluded that the pharmacist’s role is indispensable for operational efficiency, sanitary safety, and the quality of services provided by health product distributors
