Abstract

Introduction: Radiology allied to the health field can often use ionizing radiation in its functions, for this reason a strong precaution is necessary due to its physical properties. Objective: The current study aimed to analyze the main principles of radiation protection applied to the health sector. Methodology: It was an Interrogative Literature Review, with its main information collected in scientific articles and norms of government agencies. Results: The care to be taken within a radiological facility, despite being rigid, must be carried out in a continuous and uninterrupted way, radiation doses must always be obeyed, and never exceed the limits established by CNEN. Radiological facilities, in addition to taking care of the physical space, must have collective protection equipment, which will minimize the radiation dose received by the occupationally exposed individual. The shielding of the areas, and the reduction of doses must be considered, and the companies must always insist on the formation and qualification of their professionals, so that each day they are more aware of the techniques and radiological protection. Final considerations: Radiation protection is of great importance, its applicability must be made from the planning of the installation to its operation.
