DESIGN THINKING IN THE GRADUATE PROGRAM IN APPLIED SOCIAL SCIENCES AT THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF PONTA GROSSA, PARANÁ, BRAZIL: A GUIDE DESIGNED TO IMPROVE THE USER EXPERIENCE IN THE ACADEMIC SYSTEM
Abstract
This article addresses the development of the “Guide for New Users – ACAD Platform” within the Graduate Program in Applied Social Sciences (PPGCSA) at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), Paraná, Brazil. The abrupt transition from the Stricto Sensu system to the ACAD platform in 2023, without a transition period, created significant challenges for enrollment and navigation. The research sought to answer: “How can the difficulties faced by regular PPGCSA students in using the ACAD system be mitigated while enhancing the perception of public value in academic management?” The objective was to optimize institutional communication and simplify administrative processes. The guide was collaboratively developed by a student, a professor, the program coordinator, and the administrative office, and validated through iterative feedback from the academic community, applying the Design Thinking methodology. The results demonstrate the potential of Design Thinking to enhance the user experience, strengthen academic engagement, and make university management more accessible and efficient. The study highlights the replicability of the guide for other programs at UEPG and higher education institutions, as well as paving the way for future research on institutional innovation and academic policy.
