TECHNOLOGY AND PUBLIC SECURITY: THE ROLE OF PMPR IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE DIGITAL WALL IN CURITIBA

The Muralha Digital project was an initiative by the Municipal Government of Curitiba, supported by the Paraná State Military Police (PMPR), launched in 2018 with the aim of implementing monitoring technologies to enhance public safety in the city. Through statistical studies conducted by the Planning and Statistics Sector of the 1st Regional Command of the Military Police (1st CRPM), a mapping of the areas in Curitiba with the highest incidence of crimes and offenses was carried out. Based on this mapping, security cameras with facial recognition and radar systems with license plate reading capabilities were installed in strategic locations throughout the city, including routes used for escaping to other municipalities. This article analyzes the role of the PMPR in the project, the statistical analysis methods employed, and the results achieved so far, demonstrating how the combination of technology and strategic planning can contribute to crime reduction.
