IMPLEMENTATION OF A SOCIO-EMOTIONAL SKILLS CURRICULAR COMPONENT IN UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION: SCOPING REVIEW PROTOCOL
Abstract
Objective: To investigate and synthesize scientific publications on the implementation, teaching-learning, and assessment of socio-emotional skills (SES) in undergraduate medical programs in Brazil and worldwide. Despite the growing recognition of the importance of SES for the holistic training of medical students and their mental health, there is a gap in the literature regarding the systematization of existing curricular practices and the identification of effective pedagogical strategies. This protocol aims to fill that gap in knowledge, offering a comprehensive overview of current and future approaches. Methods: This study presents a protocol for a Scoping Review, developed according to the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines. The search will be conducted in the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and LILACS databases. Primary studies addressing medical students, faculty, and curricula, including implementation, pedagogical strategies, and assessment methods for SES, will be included. Blind screening of publications will be conducted using the Rayyan® software. Disagreements between reviewers will be resolved through consensus or by a third reviewer, with the calculation of the Kappa index. Final Considerations: It is expected to map the main curricular practices and trends related to the development of SES, identifying knowledge gaps and supporting educational policies aimed at promoting mental health and strengthening holistic medical training. The results of this scoping review may inform the development of more resilient and humanized curricula, essential for training health professionals capable of facing contemporary challenges.
