COMIC BOOKS AS EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY FOR CHILDREN WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES: SCOPING REVIEW PROTOCOL
Abstract
Objective: To identify and map the use of comic books as an educational strategy for children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Method: This is a scoping review conducted in accordance with the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. The search will be structured based on the PCC strategy (Population, Concept, and Context) to answer the following question: What are the uses of comic books as an educational technology for children with T1DM? Multidisciplinary electronic health databases will be consulted, as well as gray literature, including theses and dissertations, in order to broaden the scope of the identified evidence. Results: The synthesis of evidence will describe the main characteristics of educational technologies based on comic books, as well as analyze their effects on disease understanding, treatment adherence, and the development of self-care. Challenges related to the implementation of these strategies in the pediatric context and potential gaps in the scientific literature will also be identified. Conclusion: This scoping review is expected to provide a systematic analysis of educational technologies in the context of T1DM, contributing to the development of innovative playful tools. The findings may support the creation of comic books aimed at strengthening health education, promoting greater autonomy and quality of life among children with T1DM.
