CONCEPTIONS OF PLAY AND GAMES: THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE OF EARLY CHILDHOOD AND EARLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS- LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the theoretical conceptions of renowned researchers regarding play and games in pedagogical practice in Early Childhood Education and the Early Years of Elementary School. This is a bibliographic study that discusses the relevance of play and games and their contribution to the development of children’s psychomotor, affective, cognitive, and social functions. It also addresses the role played by teachers in mediating play and games in Early Childhood Education and the Early Years of Elementary School. Based on the analysis conducted, it can be affirmed that play and games are crucial for children’s integral development, whether in Early Childhood Education or in the Early Years of Elementary School, reinforcing the need for teachers to understand and experience these conceptions. It is concluded that play and games constitute a source of pleasure and, at the same time, of knowledge, through which children attending Early Childhood Education and the Early Years of Elementary School develop their motor skills.
