SCHOOL PERFORMANCE IN CAUCAIA-CE: What SPAECE 2025 Data Reveal About Equity, Curriculum and Teacher Training
Abstract
This study analyzes the results of the Permanent System for the Evaluation of Basic Education in Ceará (SPAECE 2025) in the municipality of Caucaia-CE, focusing on the evolution of average proficiency in Portuguese Language and Mathematics in the 2nd, 5th, and 9th grades of Elementary School from 2023 to 2025. A qualitative-quantitative approach was adopted, with documentary analysis of official reports from COPEM/CEMUP/SEDUC. Results indicate a consistent decline in Early Years: 2nd grade proficiency in Portuguese Language decreased by 9.7% in two years, while students at the Below Basic level grew from 9% to 23%. Contextual analysis shows that socioeconomic level, race/color, school shift, and location operate as structural inequality variables. Full-time schooling is associated with better results, suggesting a protective effect. It is concluded that reversing this situation requires structured curricular policies, evidence-based teacher training, and systematic use of evaluative data, in accordance with the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC).
