IMPACTS OF THE TRIPLE WORKLOAD ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF WOMEN WHO ARE PROFESSIONALS, MOTHERS, AND STUDENTS IN PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS

Abstract

Social and cultural transformations have expanded women’s participation in society, especially in the workforce and higher education. However, this progress still occurs within a context marked by gender inequalities, as women, in addition to working and studying, are also expected to fulfill the roles of mother and wife, thus configuring a triple work shift. Beyond external and domestic tasks, women also assume emotional and administrative demands related to the multiple roles they perform. This is a cross-sectional field study with a qualitative-quantitative approach and descriptive character. The sample consisted of 17 women who participated in the quantitative phase and 6 who participated in the qualitative phase, from which 3 interviews were selected for in-depth analysis. Online questionnaires and open interviews were used as research instruments. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and thematic analysis. The results indicate that 76.5% of the women feel dissatisfied with their dedication to activities due to overload, reporting feelings of exhaustion, maternal guilt, and direct impacts on sleep quality and mental health. These findings are corroborated by the reports of the interviewed participants, who categorically describe psychological suffering as a result of a social structure that naturalizes female care.
