Abstract

Introduction: Hyperthyroidism is a prevalent endocrine condition, mainly affecting women of reproductive age. Its epidemiological understanding is crucial for prevention and management strategies. Diagnosis relies on laboratory and imaging tests, with technological advances improving diagnostic accuracy. New emerging therapeutic options offer promise for improving clinical outcomes. Objective: This study aims to provide an overview of the current state of diagnosis and treatment of hyperthyroidism. Methods: We conducted a literature review of original studies and reviews published in the last 15 years, selecting relevant articles by specific inclusion criteria. Studies investigating risk factors, diagnosis, treatment and the impact of hyperthyroidism were considered. Results and Discussion: Hyperthyroidism has significant impacts on cardiovascular health, during pregnancy and on patients' mental health. Diagnostic advances, including laboratory tests and imaging methods, have improved diagnostic accuracy. New emerging therapies offer potential benefits in controlling symptoms and reducing side effects. Conclusion: A comprehensive understanding of hyperthyroidism is crucial to its effective management. Technological and therapeutic advances represent significant progress, although gaps in knowledge and the need for ongoing research remain. A multidisciplinary approach is essential to ensure comprehensive assessment and coordinated treatment for patients with hyperthyroidism.
