AESTHETIC PATTERNS AS GUIDING ELEMENTS IN CLINICAL DECISIONS IN DENTISTRY: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON PEOPLE'S HEALTH

This article sought to address the intersection between aesthetic standards and clinical decisions in dentistry, with a main focus on the influence of social media on people's oral health and highlighting the importance of balance in the search for aesthetics. A narrative bibliographic analysis was carried out with the aim of obtaining a comprehensive theoretical compilation with an extensive diversity of information on the aforementioned topic. This review offers more insight for dental professionals, researchers, educators and society in general, helping to better understand the impact of social media on aesthetic standards imposed and disseminated by people and on clinical decisions in dentistry. The media has played a crucial role in spreading the indiscriminate consumption of aesthetic procedures without ethical and professional responsibility for health. It is necessary to always remain attentive to the service that will be offered, bringing not only aesthetic satisfaction but also functional and healthy to the patient.
