Abstract

This article examines training policies and their impact on the development of employee competencies in the Angolan commercial banking sector, with a specific focus on BAI, Millennium Atlântico, and Caixa Geral Angola, in their Cabinda branches. The research was guided by the following central question: what is the incidence of training policies adopted by commercial banks in Angola on employees’ competencies? The underlying assumption was that the implementation of continuous, structured training policies, oriented towards both technical and behavioral skills, contributes not only to the enhancement of professional competencies but also to improved customer service. The general objective was to analyze this relationship, complemented by specific objectives related to the theoretical review, methodological design, and empirical analysis. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative strategies within an explanatory and descriptive research framework. Data collection was conducted through questionnaire surveys applied to a sample of bank employees. The findings reveal a positive correlation between training policies and the development of technical competencies. However, the hypothesis regarding the impact on behavioral competencies was only partially confirmed, highlighting the relevance of additional factors such as organizational culture and ongoing evaluation mechanisms. In conclusion, despite observable progress, training policies in the institutions under study still lack greater systematization and strategic alignment. This research contributes to the literature on human capital and banking sector training in Angola, underscoring the need for effective capacity-building programs as a cornerstone of institutional competitiveness.
