ECONOMY OF BELONGING: AN ESSAY ON DIFFERENTIATION STRATEGIES IN SIMPLE SERVICES WITHIN THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

This essay examines how simple services can generate value and loyalty in highly competitive and economically unstable markets, proposing the concept of the Economy of Belonging as an explanatory framework. A theoretical-conceptual and narrative approach is adopted, integrating contributions from Customer Experience Management (CXM), Service-Dominant Logic, and Behavioral Economics. It is argued that, in high-contact services, experience ceases to be an accessory attribute and becomes the symbolic infrastructure of the business, capable of reducing price sensitivity and stabilizing demand even under income constraints. A conceptual model is proposed that connects economic context, journey management practices, behavioral heuristics, and loyalty outcomes, with belonging as the central mediator. The indicative findings suggest that return rituals, customer memory, and digital institutionalization constitute sources of relational competitive advantage. The study contributes by reframing loyalty as an economic-cultural phenomenon and offers a research agenda for empirical validation of the model, development of belonging scales, and investigation of the effects of artificial intelligence on relationship building.
