ENAMED, HIGHER EDUCATION AND STRUCTURAL INEQUALITIES IN BRAZIL: A DIAGNOSIS BASED ON ECONOMIC AND EDUCATIONAL INDICATORS

Abstract

This article analyzes the scenario of Brazilian higher education in light of recent economic, social, and educational indicators, with emphasis on the results of the National Examination for the Performance of Medical Students (ENAMED). The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach, using international comparative data on Gross Domestic Product per capita, the proportion of young people with completed higher education, and the performance of educational institutions. The results indicate a strong correlation between socioeconomic inequality, structural precariousness in higher education, and unsatisfactory academic performance, especially in programs offered by private for-profit institutions. It is concluded that ENAMED not only assesses students but also exposes the weaknesses of an educational and business model that compromises the quality of professional training in Brazil.
