THE APPLICABILITY OF THE DEADLIFT AS A COMPLEMENTARY ASSESSMENT TOOL IN THE PHYSICAL FITNESS TESTS OF THE MILITARY POLICE OF PARANÁ

Abstract

Physical fitness is an essential element for the performance of police activities, especially in operational duties that require endurance, strength, mobility, and the ability to handle loads. The Physical Fitness Tests (PFTs) traditionally adopted by the Military Police of the State of Paraná focus on exercises such as running, shuttle run, push-ups, and pull-ups, which are important and multidimensional, but may not fully represent the functional demands of police service. In this context, the deadlift emerges as a complementary physical assessment tool, as it is a resistance exercise involving overall strength, coordination, stability, and the ability to move loads similar to those encountered in real operational activities. This article aims to analyze the applicability of the deadlift as a complementary instrument to the PFT in the military police context through bibliographic and documentary review. It was concluded that the exercise has the potential to enhance police training and Physical Fitness Tests, provided that safety criteria, standardization, and technical supervision are observed.
