DISASSEMBLY POTENTIAL IN INNOVATIVE CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS IN BRAZIL: AN ANALYSIS OF DATEC DOCUMENTS FROM A CIRCULAR ECONOMY PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
The Brazilian construction industry faces the challenge of managing tons of construction and demolition waste (CDW) generated by the sector. In this scenario, the Circular Economy (CE) and Design for Disassembly (DfD) emerge as essential strategies to transform buildings into "Material Banks," maintaining resources in high-value closed cycles. This study evaluated the dismantling potential of 14 innovative construction systems regulated by the PBQP-H (Brazilian Program for Quality and Productivity in Housing) using Technical Assessment Documents (DATec). The methodology involved document analysis and the application of a checklist composed of 16 technical criteria for dismantling and circularity, divided between systems and materials. The results indicate that 92.8% of the systems have theoretical potential for deconstruction, but face bottlenecks in the standardization of mechanical connections and data traceability. Most of the analyzed DATecs do not present information on the toxicity of the materials, which prevents safe decision-making at the end of their useful life and reinforces the linear logic of disposal. It is concluded that the transition to circularity in Brazilian construction depends on the evolution of regulatory frameworks to include Material Passports (BMPs) and digitization via BIM, fundamental tools to guarantee the effective reuse of components and the reduction of environmental damage caused by the sector.
