Abstract

Introduction: Nanotechnology serves as a powerful tool with the potential to mitigate infections, playing a key role in prevention, diagnosis, and therapeutic strategies for the management of COVID-19. These strategies include the development of therapeutic agents and vaccines to deliver antiviral agents to the human body. The purpose of the study is to highlight the association between the advancement of nanotechnology and the development of vaccines against Sars-Cov-2. Methodology: This is an integrative review, in which the literature search was made by consulting the databases PubMed, Google Scholar and Scielo, using the following keywords: "nanotechnology", "medicine", "prevention of diseases" and "vaccine", combined with Boolean operators. Results and discussion: Nanoparticles can be applied as a measure to reverse antiviral resistance, which is a gradual development challenge of currently available conventional therapeutics. Nanomedicine can participate in the design, delivery and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines because they have a multivalent antigen presentation and antigen stabilization. they can also carry adjuvants to enhance immune response and targeted antigen delivery, such as an mRNA vaccine, which is delivered by a liposomal nanoparticle as one of the current candidate vaccines. Final considerations: Nanomaterials can be considered candidates against viral infections, especially CoVs, due to their ability to easily enter cells and interact with viruses, helping to prevent viral genome replication. However, further studies and clinical trials should be conducted to improve this technology.
