Abstract

Introduction: The use of lab coats by health professionals in public places has become common. Objective: We carried out an analysis on the fists of lab coats of several professionals in order to detect microorganisms. Method: 10 lab coats were analyzed and samples were collected with swabs, cultured for growth and differentiated in Gram stain and antimicrobial sensitivity test. Results: We analyzed the growth of S. aureus and other species and in one sample more than one colony of bacteria was identified. The antimicrobial sensitivity test showed resistance to Gentamicin and colonies with heteroresistance to Vancomycin. Conclusion: Although there is no standard way of cleaning these garments, you should be aware of the risk of cross-contamination and always wash after use.
