Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the profile of hospital outbreaks caused by carbapenemase-producing A. baumannii, in hospitals in the state of Goiás, to describe the main types of clinical samples from which the pathogen was isolated and to identify the genes that confer the production of carbapenemase encoding strains of A. baumannii of hospital outbreaks. Method: observational cross-sectional study, based on the results of bacterial isolates from hospital outbreaks caused by carbapenemase-producing A. baumannii from January 2015 to December 2020. Results: results of isolates from three hospitals were analyzed and nine outbreaks were confirmed and the resistance gene identified was blaOXA-23. Conclusion: the tracheal aspirate sample was the most frequent among hospital outbreaks and the blaOXA-23 resistance gene was identified in seven outbreaks. The characterization of the outbreaks highlights the threat posed by the spread of pathogens harboring genes encoding resistance.
