Among many of the difficulties that women face when breastfeeding, such as symptoms of pain in the breasts, are those related to breast engorgement, which associated with nipple fissure can lead to an early interruption of exclusive breastfeeding. To avoid the occurrence of early weaning, there are treatment strategies that, according to their effectiveness, can serve to heal these injured breasts. The objective outlined in this article was to analyze, through an integrative review, the effectiveness of treatment strategies for the healing of nipple fissures in breast engorgement. For the elaboration of this integrative review, the studies were searched in the following databases: Cochrane Library, National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). The search was carried out from August to November 2021 and from April to June 2022, using the following descriptors (indexed in the Health Sciences Descriptors - DECS): breast feeding, light therapy, laser therapy, breast milk, lanolin , traumas using the Boolean operators and, or. Studies with the following criteria were included: clinical, randomized and controlled, international and national trials that were in English and Portuguese, complete and free of charge and with the publication date of the last 10 complete years (2011-2021). Seven studies were found, of which four were selected, which showed different forms of treatment and their conditions, taking into account the effectiveness. Among the treatments discussed for healing nipple trauma, it was not possible to positively affirm the efficacy due to the disagreement observed between the information from the analyzed studies.
