Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is one of the main causes of death in the world, with heart failure as its main complication. In refractory cases, heart transplantation is the gold standard for treatment. Nevertheless, for patients to be candidates for this surgical approach, both donors and recipients need to undergo a careful evaluation of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA), so that postoperative complications are avoided. Among these complications, there are early and late complications, which is the objective of this literature review based on relevant studies related to the topic.
