Abstract

Objective: To demonstrate the impact of endometriosis on women's mental health, based on a review of the documented medical literature. Methods: An integrative review was carried out, using as criteria the search in the scientific databases PubMed, LILACS, SciELO and Google Scholar, using the descriptors "endometriosis AND menstrual pain"; "endometriosis AND physical health"; "endometriosis AND mental health"; and "endometriosis AND health impacts". Results: Endometriosis affects one in ten women of reproductive age and is characterized by chronic inflammation caused by adhesions of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity in intra- and extrapelvic structures. It is known that it takes between 7 and 10 years to diagnose it, however, there are technological advances that have allowed a better knowledge of the disease, which finally presents an improvement in the diagnoses. Final considerations: A relationship was found between endometriosis and the deterioration of the quality of life and mental health of women affected by this pathology.
