Abstract

Considered a serious public health problem, obesity is recognized as a multifactorial and epidemic metabolic alteration that affects women in the climacteric. Climacteric is a natural phase of a woman's life, which occurs between 40 and 65 years of age, in which there is a decline in the production of ovarian hormones, estrogen and progesterone. In this sense, the present study aims to know the repercussions of overweight and obesity in women in the climacteric. The type of study conducted is an integrative review of the literature, where searches were conducted in the databases of latin american and caribbean literature on health sciences (LILACS), nursing database (BDENF) and scientific electronic library online (scielo). From the primary search, 12 articles eligible for this integrative review involving women over 40 years of age were obtained. It was found that during the climacteric, the repercussions of overweight and obesity that most outperformed were the increase in hot flashes, increased food intake, increased body adiposity and increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, causing a reduction in the quality of life of these women. In view of these findings, it is evident that the predominance of overweight is an aggravating factor for women during the climacteric. Thus, the association of these factors requires greater attention to women's health and a multidisciplinary approach as a way of preventing morbidity and mortality in this population group.
