Abstract

Tuberculosis is considered a serious public health problem, since death from this disease is considered preventable and its occurrence may indicate failures in patient care. Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of tuberculosis in the city of Patos-Paraíba. A retrospective epidemiological study was carried out with a descriptive and quantitative approach to confirmed cases of tuberculosis in the period from 2001 to 2020, with data obtained through the SINAN (Information System for Notifiable Diseases) available for consultation in the database. DATASUS (Informatics Department of the Unified Health System). 776 cases of tuberculosis were identified in the last 20 years, with a reduction in the incidence of 5.27%, affecting mainly male individuals (68.17%) in the age group of 20 to 59 years. It was observed that there was an important increase in the performance of the anti-HIV test (64.94%), however a significant number of cases did not undergo the examination. There was also an improvement in relation to the adoption of DOT, however, in 54.64% of cases this information was ignored. Although 67.65% of the cases presented a situation of closure due to cure, this indicator remains below the agreed value. Tuberculosis is still a global emergency and rational planning is necessary for the adoption of effective strategies for disease control and prevention.
