CLINICAL CROWN LENGTHENING FOR ORAL REHABILITATION: A NARRATIVE REVIEW AND CASE REPORT

Abstract

Clinical Crown Augmentation (ACC) with functional and aesthetic purpose is recommended as a therapeutic alternative in the occurrence of invasion of supracrestal insertion tissues/biological space. The present study aimed to elucidate, through a narrative review and case report, the importance of functional clinical crown augmenting surgery with prosthetic-restorative purpose. The review was carried out in the following databases: Google Scholar, Lilacs, MEDLINE/PubMed and Scielo. The case report followed the CARE guidelines for Case Reports. A 55-year-old woman presented with element 16 affected by a subgingival cervical caries lesion, Class V, on the palatine face. The surgical procedure of functional ACC was performed by flap technique with osteotomy and osteoplasty. Subsequently, restorative treatment was performed. The case was followed for more than 3 months. There was effectiveness of the surgical procedure and stability of periodontal tissues that successfully corresponded to the restorative treatment performed, without limitations. In conclusion, the importance of periodontal surgery of ACC with functional purpose is highlighted, as it consists of a minimally invasive procedure used to assist prosthetic-restorative treatments, preventing failures during treatment and injuries to the periodontin, keeping the supracrestal insertion tissues healthy. Therefore, the knowledge of the dimensions related to the health of supracrestais insertion tissues, as well as their anatomical understanding, and the consequences of their invasion, contributes to adequate prosthetic-restorative treatments and consequent success, returning function and comfort and longevity.
