Abstract

This article discusses a research with 47 individuals to understand what motivates someone to choose a career and the relationship between these motivators and satisfaction with their current job. For this, the Career Motivators and Professional Satisfaction Assessment was used, an instrument elaborated from the definitions of Tamayo and Paschoal (2003) and distributed online, evaluating eleven motivators from 47 items on a scale and two multiple choice questions. From 0 to 5, the averages of the universalism (4.72) and benevolence (4.66) motivators were the highest, and those of tradition (3.48) and power (3.61) were the least influential. The conclusions indicate that intrinsic aspects are the most influential in professional choice and satisfaction, and remuneration, contrary to popular expectations, is not the most important point.
