CONSEQUENCES OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON CHILD SOCIALIZATION: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

Introduction: the social isolation resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic represented an abrupt change in the routine of the entire population. The children found themselves removed from their main place of conviviality and learning: the schools. This withdrawal can have detrimental consequences for building social skills and mental health. Objective: to analyze publications on the consequences of child socialization resulting from social isolation. Methodology: a literature review was conducted in order to answer the following scientific question: what are the main consequences of social isolation resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic for child socialization? To obtain the scientific repertoire, the databases SciELo, PubMED and LILACS were used, searching for the descriptors "children", "socialization", "social isolation" and "COVID-19" together with the Boolean term AND. The inclusion criteria were articles in English, Spanish and Portuguese, with a sample of children. Incomplete articles, duplicates, literature reviews, that presented an escape from the theme and that did not answer the scientific question were excluded. Results: A total of 2595 were found, 9 of which were obtained as samples after selection based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Among the main consequences of social isolation found in the children analyzed, we can mention the difficulty of socialization, increase in the rates of depression, anxiety, hyperactivity and aggressiveness, difficulty in emotional control, reduction in the practice of physical activity and increase in screen time.
