CHALLENGES FACED BY NURSING IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

This article is an integrative literature review developed through the LILACS, SciELO and CAPES Periódicos databases from August 2022 to April 2023, carried out by peers using the descriptors selected in the DeCS- Descriptors in Sciences of Health: Professional performance; staff reduction; workday; work conditions. Aiming to analyze the main challenges faced by nursing during the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 334 scientific articles were obtained, of which 9 were selected for analysis. The inclusion criteria applied were studies in Portuguese, from the period 2020 to 2022, published and indexed in the selected databases. Exclusion criteria were articles outside the established period and repeated works in the databases. Results: When analyzing the 9 selected articles, it was possible to observe that two centuries after the category's prominence in the Crimean War, it is again visible for being on the front line in the fight against the pandemic, experiencing great challenges with the overcrowding of Hospitals , generating long hours with work overload and lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), causing these professionals to become ill, requiring change in the change and dynamics of the service. Conclusion: Therefore, the indicators gathered in this study made it possible to highlight the confrontation of the COVID-19 pandemic by nursing, highlighting the main challenges and realizing the need to minimize the burden, stress and psychological damage generated by the pandemic scenario.
