QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF 50 MILLIGRAM CAPTOPRIL TABLETS

Abstract

Arterial hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a chronic disease that affects the circulatory system and is characterized by blood pressure values equal to or greater than 140/90 mmHg. The first drug developed to treat high blood pressure was captopril. The practice of pill partition is commonly used by health professionals, especially in the treatment of the elderly and children. Among the disadvantages observed in this practice, the one that causes most concern is the inaccuracy in dosage. The aim of the study was to verify if the active ingredient content in broken tablets of captopril 50 mg is uniform in the halves obtained. The amount of captopril was determined using the direct iodine titration method, described in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia. The results showed that, of the four samples analyzed, only one showed a significant difference between halves. In the analyzes made with whole tablets, the results showed that all samples had an active ingredient content above the maximum limit allowed by the regulatory agency.

Graduated in Chemistry from the University of Brasília (2000), Masters (2004) and Doctorate (2010) in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Brasília and Specialization (2011) in Health Surveillance from the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás. of Surveillance in Environmental Health and Occupational Health (DSAST) / Secretariat of Health Surveillance (SVS) / Ministry of Health (MS). She is currently full professor and coordinator of the Evaluation Committee of the Centro Universitário do Planalto Central Apparecido dos Santos (UNICEPLAC). Has experience in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry, focusing on Voltametry and Potentiometry, acting on the following subjects: ASV, metal analysis, medicines and pesticides, and human exposure to chemical contaminants.
